NEW ALBUM to be launched at Cambridge Festival
Brian’s new album, The Baltic Tae Byzantium, is the long awaited sequel to The Back O’ The North Wind and the second instalment in his musical exploration of the Scottish diaspora. It tells the stories of Scots who have made their mark all over Europe, among them John Knox, Mary Queen of Scots, General Tam Dalyell, Clementine Walkinshaw – Bonnie Prince Charlie’s mistress – and Brian’s own father. He also looks at Scottish communities as a whole, including the wool traders with Veere in Holland and the farmers who took their skills to Poland. Like its predecessor, The Baltic Tae Byzantium is also a multi media concert, originally commissioned for Celtic Connections. It’s an album which has taken a long time to produce because of Brian’s other commitments in recent years, but he is very pleased with the results and hopes you will be too. Brian McNeill the songwriter, composer, singer, multi instrumentalist and producer are all shown to great effect and he plays with great musicians and friends old and new, including Dick Gaughan, Sylvia Barnes, Patsy Seddon, Fraser Speirs, Mike Travis, George Haig, Lorne MacDougall, Dominique Dodge, Celine Donoghue and Lynsey Payne. Brian is delighted that the album will be launched at Cambridge Festival, with a signing at 3pm, after the Saturday Session. If you would like to order the new album in advance of the launch date, you can do so through the website at the special price of £11 plus p&p. The Baltic Tae Byzantium is released on Greentrax and FMS Records.
